From the NAB: Where are Your People?

By Glenn Grow, Chair, National Alumni Board

It’s a question that drives a lot of us: Where are my people?

For many A/U Ranches and DiscoveryBound alumni, we cherish our memories and experiences from Youth Camp, family and adult programs, or DiscoveryBound events for the community they have provided us – even for short moments.

Often, however, our plugged-in digital lives can feel isolating. We seek engagement and a sense of belonging. Sound familiar?

Adventure Unlimited offers an unplugged opportunity to join your community and find a window of meaning just right for you. In fact, this year we’re celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of Adventure Unlimited! That’s 70 years of programs bringing people together through joyful adventure – and counting!

A Colorado mountain getaway brought 20s/30s adults together for a sold-out weekend of skiing, snowboarding, games, inspiration, and connection.

Let’s just say Adventure Unlimited has your back, whether you’re a parent, grandparent, a single adult, or have a partner.

Not attending church so much anymore? You are always welcome, and Adventure Unlimited has the right activity for you. Here are some ways alumni of all ages can get involved.

Participating in family and adult programs at the A/U Ranches solo is great for rejuvenation and connection. For example, individual travelers have amazing adventures and find connection every summer at Adult Mini Camp. Christmas Camp is another family and adult program where a number of participants often attend on their own and join our camp family for the holiday.

For adults, a Watercolor Workshop at Adult Mini Camp this year will be taught by professional artist Kelly Foxton, who has been conducting virtual watercolor classes with DiscoveryBound Outreach over the past few years. Create your canvas against nature’s Collegiate Peaks tableau in an atmosphere of love.

And new this fall, our C.S. Homeschool Families Retreat will connect and inspire homeschooling families through classic camp activities like horseback riding and climbing at the rock gym, as well as fresh opportunities for joy-filled learning around the ranch.

Each A/U Ranches program this year will provide a special opportunity to reconnect with camp friends and meet new ones, whether you come on your own or with friends and family. Plus, don’t forget that generous donors make camp affordable for everyone. Financial aid is available for Youth Camp as well as adult programs!

For career-minded Christian Science educators, stay tuned for info about a virtual educators’ summit full of inspiration and opportunities to connect.

Fans of the East Coast may be interested in the DiscoveryBound Outreach Adult Cape Cod and Nantucket trip June 3–6, scheduled in tandem with the Annual Meeting at The Mother Church in Boston. Explore America’s rich historical tapestry of coastal villages and beaches directly after Annual Meeting. Financial aid is available for this trip as well, thanks to the generosity of donors.

If traveling for adventure is not your thing, you can get involved by staying right at home with Adventure Unlimited’s spring virtual fundraiser on May 1 at 6 p.m. MDT. You can join the community online to watch inspirational stories from program participants and learn where you can make an impact with your generosity and pay it forward to the next generation. It’s completely free to attend!

However you choose to get involved, the A/U Ranches and DiscoveryBound welcome you. Find your people, unplug, make memories, and add fulfillment to your life and relationships. We’re here for you.
