From the NAB: Rekindling Friendships Forged at Camp
By Glenn Grow, Chair, National Alumni Board
Serendipity cannot be planned, yet for A/U Ranches alumni attending Adult Mini Camp, it is almost guaranteed. You make surprise connections, rekindle past friendships, and meet new friends, often becoming friends for life.
The amazing friendship between Emily Melville and Carley Crandall began in earnest at Adult Mini Camp in 2011, and they make a point to meet at the A/U Ranches each summer.
“Our friendship has been there through heartbreak, tragedy, life changes, great joy, moves, careers,” says Emily, “and we make it a priority to return to [the A/U Ranches] each August for Adult Mini Camp.”
Both Emily and Carley were campers and staff, and their relationship is emblematic of the quality of friendships forged at camp.
“I was immediately drawn to her sense of humor and tenacious riding ability,” says Emily about her friend, Carley. “Little did I know we also shared a love of podcasts, travel, family, silly reality TV shows, ambitions, and so much more! What I appreciate most about Carley is how she loves and how she reflects divine Love.”
This story is not the exception but often the rule for alumni of A/U Ranches and DiscoveryBound. Here are some ways all alumni can rekindle friendships and get involved.
Family & Adult Camp at the A/U Ranches allows for fantastic friend reunions and families. You won’t be sitting around; you’ll stay engaged in adventures, activities, and peaceful relaxation; it’s your choice. For families with young children, kids can spend their days on their own adventures, enabling you to relax or choose a different activity.
Before you book your next vacation rental or friend reunion, think about Family & Adult Camp or Adult Mini Camp for an experience to remember. Christmas Camp is also just around the corner.
The summer of 2025 will be the 70th anniversary of Adventure Unlimited, so plan now for your friend group to meet at the A/U Ranches for Adult Mini Camp or Adult & Family Camp.
Youth Camp remains a relevant and important opportunity for young Christian Scientists to experience the loving, supportive atmosphere of fellowship often missing from their daily lives. Send your kids to summer camp, and registration opens soon.
Giving Tuesday is December 3 this year. Every donation supports the ongoing work of Adventure Unlimited. Its mission remains timeless and needs your support.
Adventure Unlimited friends I met in my teens remain close to me decades later. My camp experiences are seared into my memory. I will never forget, for example, that complex feeling of mixed fear and excitement, looking out the airplane window at our vast country on my way to the A/U Ranches. Then, in front of door 10 at the Denver airport, I made instant friends.
Do you remember stepping out of the bunkhouse and smelling the clear mountain air, the overnight trips, care packages, testimony meetings of real-time healings, the sounds and smells of the corral, the frigid Arkansas River water, and epic dances? All of these memories are ready for renewal and rejuvenation with you and your friends. Join us!
