DB Teens in New York – Focus on the Arts!
Over Labor Day weekend, 100 teens and nearly 50 adults gathered in New York City for a DiscoveryBound Focus on Arts event. Highlights included peer-led discussions held in Central Park, a matinee performance of Wicked at the Gershwin Theater, dinner near Times Square and a boat cruise along the Manhattan coastline viewing the Statue of Liberty and the newly constructed Freedom Tower.
The metaphysical theme was “The sculptor turns from the marble to his model in order to perfect his conception. We are all sculptors, working at various forms, moulding and chiseling thought.” (Science and Health, 248: 12-15)
What makes DB’s Focus Series unique is the hands-on workshops conducted by practicing Christian Scientists, many of them A/U – DB alumni. They share valuable experiences on how they utilize Christian Science in their professions.
We are so grateful for the professional facilitators who supported this event! We invite you to view a list profiling their area of involvement and qualifications. We are also grateful for the many volunteers and chaperones that supported this event.
“I want to thank you so much for helping me go to New York this year with DiscoveryBound. Every event is amazing and gives me a boost in the right spiritual direction …The workshops were awesome and really interesting … I learned to go outside of my comfort zone, and take risks. To use the things around me to change the way things are done and to give everything you’ve got until you find something that works … While walking back from Times Square, I hurt my ankle. I found it painful to walk on and that was not the best time or place for something like that to happen. But I got huge support from everyone in my travel group both physically and metaphysically …By the time I got back to the hostel my ankle felt a lot better, but it still wasn’t right. I talked to one of the staff members in my room and they sent me to bed with the idea of God being the only Mind. I went to bed with that in mind, and woke up without even remembering until later that day that my ankle had hurt. It was an amazing healing for me …I felt so at home and un-judged. It was the most safe I have ever felt. I could literally feel God being expressed through everything …The weekend was incredible in every aspect and I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the help you gave me and my brother to come to this event. I will never forget it.”
