Sky Valley Ranch Majors - For 3rd - 8th Graders *

EXPLORERS 3rd–4th Graders:
A perfect introduction to the Ranch experience, designed with our younger campers in mind. You’ll love the nature study, expeditions on Turtle Rocks, Twin Lakes beach, games, hiking, Native American lore, mountain legends, and your own camping trip to a teepee along a stream on the Ranch property.

MOUNTAINEERING 5th–6th Graders:
Bring your hiking boots and come explore the San Isabel National Forest, mountains, rocks and lakes that surround the Ranches. First-time mountain climbers, as well as experienced mountaineers, will enjoy the challenge of rock climbing, caving, orienteering, A/U’s ropes and initiative course, ascending a peak, and working together on a 3-day backpacking trip.

WATERFRONT 3rd–8th Graders:
This program is a blast for anyone who wants to swim in Sky Valley’s pool, canoe on high mountain lakes, and hike to jump rocks along the banks of the Arkansas. Emphasis is on safety and can challenge you as much or as little as you like. You’ll never forget the 3-day camping/canoeing trip on an incredible alpine lake.
Note: The 7th and 8th graders will also have the opportunity to go on a raft trip on the Arkansas River.

CHALLENGERS - Sky Valley Leadership program for 7th–8th graders:
This program combines elements of the other Sky Valley majors and focuses on leadership and teamwork. You'll have the opportunity to go rock climbing, do a service project, climb on the ropes course, take a raft trip on the Arkansas River, experience a three-day backpacking trip with 14,000-foot peak ascent, and lots more. Come challenge yourself personally, spiritually, and as a team member in this fun and exciting program.

BUCKAROOS 3th–4th Graders:
Buckaroos have their own space at the Sky Valley corral, dedicated staff who make it fun, and horses who are gentle with newer riders. The “Old Prospector and “Listens to the Wind are sure to visit the Ranches and bring the name of a horse for each camper. The 3-day trip is on Ranch property at the Buckaroo teepee.

HORSEMANSHIP 5th–8th Graders:
Come see why this program is a favorite! You’ll learn to care for and communicate with horses, plus have one to call your own while at camp! First-time riders quickly become comfortable in the saddle under the direction of A/U’s corral counselors. Bring your boots and get ready for great trail rides, games, rodeo events, and a 3-day horse pack trip.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN THEATER PROJECT 6th-8th graders: (Sessions 2 & 3)
Are you interested in theatre?  Do you love the mountains? Here's a program that finally unites the two!  Come and join us for a unique A/U program that does everything but include spending two weeks trapped in a dark, stuffy auditorium studying lines. True to AU's mission, this program will make theatre an outdoor adventure. Through playing theatre games, building an ensemble and rehearsing a short play, campers will explore the environment around camp to find new "stages" for performance. Our two-week session will culminate in a performance that uses the incredible outdoors as our set. Get ready to use your imagination and creativity and see how acting can intertwine with nature as well as contribute to spiritual growth!

NEW! PHOTOGRAPHY 6th-8th Graders: (Session 1):
If you love fine photography or want to become a camera pro, this major is for you! Staff will guide participants through a digital photography program that includes equipment use, artistic theory, downloading, cropping and editing, slide shows, and more. The 3-day trip will take you to some truly spectacular high mountain areas for stunning photo opportunities.

CHALLENGER OUT-OF-CAMP Backpacking trip 7th—8th Graders (Session 2):
If you have done some backpacking before, then join us on this trip just for 7th and 8th graders. The group begins with the Challenger ropes course and rock climbing, then heads into the high country for seven days of backpacking, peak climbing, and back country skills instruction. If you are ready for a challenge and some incredible leadership opportunities, come join us. It’ll be awesome!

SOCCER CLINIC 5th-8th Graders: (Session 3)
Whether you’re getting ready for fall soccer season with your team or just up for learning the basics of the game for the first-time, you will love the fun and instruction on Hubbell Field (the best grass above 8,500 feet in the country)! Coaches and college players from around the country will be gathering here to share their skills and love for the game.
