Special Majors
Special Majors are offered to give Sky Valley campers an extra
challenge and an exciting taste of backcountry living. Campers
with a bit of camping experience (any previous A/U summer program
works!) can apply to venture out with a small group of peers
on one of these extended trips in Colorado's backcountry.
Session 1 - Fly Fishing: If you have ever wanted
to learn to tie your own flies, feel the rhythmic motion of a
fly rod in your hands, and wade along the lakes and streams of
the Colorado high country, then the fly fishing special is for
you. We will start with instruction in the basics and then work
our way through some of the best fishing terrain in the country.
Brookies, brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout all abound in the
waters near camp. The three-day backpacking and fishing trip to
an alpine lake should be the highlight.
Session 2 - Challenger Out of Camp Backpacking trip:
If you have done some backpacking before, then come join us on
this trip just for 7th and 8th graders. The group will begin with
the Challenger program for ropes course and rock climbing, then
instead of a three-day camping trip, we will head out into the
high country for seven days of backpacking, peak climbing, and
backcountry skills instruction. It should be awsome! If you are
ready for a challenge and some great leadership opportunities,
then come join us.

Session 3 - Soccer Camp: Whether you are getting ready
for fall soccer season with your team or just wanting to learn
the basics of soccer for the first time, you will love the hours
of fun and instruction on Hubbell Field (the best grass above
8,500 feet in the country!). Soccer pros, coaches, and college
players from around the country will be gathering here to share
their skills and love for the game. |
