K.C. has been working with youth of different ages in some capacity for the past several years. Currently, she is a program coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Vista, CO, where she lives in a tiny log cabin at the Adventure Unlimited Ranches with her husband, Aaron, and two sled dogs, Tessie and Scout. She is grateful for this new opportunity to work with a group of motivated, community-minded, and kindhearted Christian Science youth as they develop as Christian Scientists and leaders.
K.C. attended Principia Upper School and graduated from Principia College in 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education and Sociology. She has been developing her latent “outdoorsy” side since moving to Colorado, and she can often be found trying to keep up with her husband on the ski slopes, skijoring with her dogs, or hiking around her mountain home. She loves to read, play the piano, play tennis, teach Sunday School, introduce new art projects to kids at work, and search for delicious new recipes. She is also teaching herself how to play guitar. Having grown up in the Twin Cities, K.C. is a Minnesota Vikings fan who knows without a doubt that her team’s chance is coming up within the next 100 years.
K.C. is excited to join the NLC team and to witness and experience the growth that is sure to result from the coming together of an inspiring group of young people.
Sedge began working full time at Adventure Unlimited in May 2008. He and his wife, Laura, have two dogs, Grip and Ellie, who they take everywhere possible. Skijoring with his dogs in the winter and hiking with them in the summer are Sedge’s two most common activities on days off. Sedge loves learning about and viewing almost anything in the natural world. He and Laura love visiting the National Parks.
Sedge grew up a few miles outside of a small town, Stanton, Kentucky. He is the tenth out of eleven children. He grew up participating in track and field, 4-H, and FFA. He attended AU one summer, and he was a staff member at Camp Leelanau for one summer and worked two summers at A/U.
Sedge attended Principia College with a double major in History and Mass Communication. While at Prin, he ran track and cross country. Sedge is currently in his third season helping coach the local Buena Vista High School track and field team. He is coaching the long, triple, and high jumps for the 2011 season.
Sedge is also an avid reader; history books mostly. However, he also spends an exorbitant amount of time reading about sports. He loves reading about and watching football. He is especially happy this year because he is a Green Bay Packers fan.
Sedge loves listening to a wide range of musical genres, especially classic country music. One more thing: Sedge loves chocolate.

My name is Alex. I am an 8th grade honors student, and enjoy Spanish and History this year. I love all things athletic: water skiing, wakeboarding, snow skiing, tennis, and especially soccer. I play on an independent competitive soccer team that was just formed this year. Besides sports, I also play jazz piano. I enjoy most types of jazz but my favorite type is swing. I also enjoy photography, especially sports photography. My favorite sport to photograph is winter action, such as the half-pipe. I am a very committed Christian Scientist and I attend a Christian Science camp every summer as well as regularly attending Sunday School. I love to hang out with my friends as well as spend time with my family and my Shih Tzu, Cookie. I also like to volunteer in my local community. I am coaching a Future Problem Solving team of second through fourth grade students. Future Problem Solving (FPS) is a program that teaches kids how to solve problems based on their knowledge of current issues (such as Space Junk, Health Care Reform or School Lunch). Students apply this knowledge to solve problems involving a scenario that is set 20-50 years in the future. I competed in FPS twice at the state level and once at the international level, and I love coaching because I'm now giving back and sharing my knowledge. I also volunteer each year at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. I walk dogs, clean kennels, make food for potbellied pigs and even walk the pigs. Even though it is hard work, I enjoy it because being around all of the animals makes me so happy.
My name is Andrew. I am a reliable person in times of need and I am compassionate toward other people. God is my Father-Mother; I turn to Him when I am in need. I try to bring out the best in all of my companions. I am respectful when someone is speaking and I concentrate on the principles that are being shared. My band teacher says ‚ "You should always watch a speaker or any teacher 85% of the time". I always try to watch the speaker 95% of the time. When I first heard about NLC I was excited about taking part in helping others and growing as a spiritual idea in God's kingdom.
Hello, my name is Brooke. I love the outdoors, and hope to have a career in music some day. I am the youngest of five close cousins, two of which are in the NLC class of 2015. I have played piano for almost 10 years, and I also play a variety of other instruments including guitar and trombone. I absolutely love country music. I have an older brother who is now a sophomore in high school, and a cute golden retriever named Pepper. I play lacrosse as a goalie, and hope to play in high school. I enjoy hiking, and a year ago went on a 7 day backpacking trip. I also love to act, and have been involved with two plays at my school this year. I love Christian Science, and hope to grow a lot throughout the program!
Hi! My name is Courtlyn. My favorite color is pink, and I love lip-gloss, so I think it is sufficient to say that I am very girly. Additionally, I am very loving, compassionate, and trustworthy, as well as outgoing, organized, and intelligent. I am also daring and not afraid to try something new. In school, I am a very hardworking and studious student. My favorite subjects are Spanish and Language Arts. Outside of school, I love to be in musicals, shows, and singing groups. While I enjoy playing basketball and tennis, I am currently not in any sports, except for dance. In the winters, however, I love to ski. Additionally, I am an active Girl Scout. I just completed my Silver Project, and I hope to complete my Gold Award in the upcoming years. My friends and I love to go swimming, skating, shopping, and to have sleepovers, where we can stay up all night laughing and talking. I also love spending time with my amazing, loving, and supportive family. There are four people in my immediate family: my mom, my dad, my brother, Landon, and myself. I also have two adorable pets, a dog named Sparky and a bunny named Dasher. I enjoy traveling with my family, whether our excursions are local or international. My family and I also like to watch the T.V. show Survivor together. Additionally, my family and I attend church every Sunday and some Wednesday evenings. I enjoy going to church to learn more about God and Christian Science. I also like participating in the Discovery Bound, Principia, and other Christian Science events. During the summer, I love going to Cedars Camp in Missouri. I absolutely love meeting new people and making new friends as well as being reunited with old ones. I have been attending this camp for the last three years, and it has become one of my homes away from home. I love being surrounded by close friends, smiling faces, and a never-ending atmosphere of Christian Science and Love.
My name is Emily. Five years ago I discovered a love for macro-photography. I have been taking pictures ever since. I prefer taking pictures of nature such as, flowers, mountains and rivers. When I have free time at home, I sing along with my favorite songs, paint and draw, or play with my dogs. I also enjoy playing games with my family.
I come from a very close family and have one brother and a step-sister and step-brother. My mom and step-dad met at our CS church. Both of them come from very large families and we all have so much fun together. The rest of my family is spread out all over, but we talk a lot over Skype. My great grandmother in Texas is the heart of our family. I wouldn't be the person I am today without my family's love.
My name is Erin. I'm the 3rd child in my family, and the youngest. My oldest sister, Kati, goes to a Christian Science college as a freshman, and my other sister, Colleen, just switched to a Christian Science high school in her junior year. I am an eighth grader going to a public school. My dad is a music teacher at two elementary schools, and my mom is an aid at the elementary school I used to go to. We just got a black kitten named Kiki, and a few years ago, we rescued our dog, Peppie.
My best friend Ali is also like my twin because we have so many similarities. I play the piano, cello, and I sing, just like her. I love to act, and am just now joining a soccer team. I love volleyball, baseball/softball, and tennis, but I'm not very good at them. I also run cross country. I go to church every Sunday and Wednesday possible. I have gone to Cedars Camps every summer for two weeks for seven years now, and every other summer our family goes up to New Hampshire.
Hi, my name is Gabriel and I am currently in the 8th grade. I have a cat, Kiki, and an older sister, Sapphire, who is in the NLC program. I strive to be a responsible and caring leader. I love Christian Science because it heals. I'm a member of my branch and The Mother Church. Education and leadership skills are valuable for me to develop so that I can help others fully. I have confidence in pursuing my dreams to help improve the world by helping people and worthy causes.
In my free time, I enjoy designing and building Legos, playing the trombone, biking, hiking, going to summer camps, running, having friends over, reading, and helping others.
Hi my name is Garrett and I am 13. I live in a place with a gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountains. I have a sister named Shelby, a mom named Susan and a dad named Jeff. We have two beautiful Golden Retrievers named Cassie and Bella. My favorite sport is swimming. I have been going to Adventure Unlimited for 9 years which has made me very spiritually minded. My family and I like to go skiing together. I am currently involved in Boy Scouts, and my troop and I go out camping at least once a month. One thing that I like to do a lot is to cook. I have a very close-knit family with my cousins, aunt, and uncle. My favorite meal is probably steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. My biggest hero in life would probably be Ronald Reagan for many reasons and my favorite book is probably The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. My favorite subject in school is math and in school I get straight A's. I have been a Christian Scientist my whole life and plan to better my knowledge with this program.
Hey I'm Jacob! I am a person that loves to try new things and wants to do the activities that will help me to do awesome things later in life. For example, I love to make videos, either sketches or video blogs, (vlogs) for YouTube. It's one of those things that you can't figure out all in one try; it takes a lot of effort and practice. I am also getting into photography. I love going to church or other Christian Science events because it really makes me feel so much more closer to God and inspired to be the greatest person I can be. I enjoy spending time with family and hanging out with friends. My life is full of ups and downs but in the end I just want to be a part in making the world a better place by example!
My name is Kayla and I am 13 years old with copper red hair. I am 5' 10" tall. I am in the 8th grade. I play the alto saxophone in the school concert band and I share first chair in jazz band along with my friend. I have been playing the alto for two years now. I like outdoor activities such as hiking and camping, and playing Wii sports with my brother. My favorite game is archery. I have one pet named Sadie Sue. She is a shepherd hound mix and I've had her since I was six. I have been going to Sunday School since I was in the children's room.
My name is Laine, and I like to go horseback riding and work with cattle. I have four horses at home and love to spend time grooming them. My favorite color is purple and my favorite animals are pandas and zebras (when I'm not with my horses). When I grow up, I want to be a lawyer or a politician. My favorite subject in school is History because I love to learn about how the modern world has become the way it is. I like to spend time with my friends and try to do this whenever I can. I have an older sister that was also in NLC, and when she's not working on her school work (which is almost 24/7) we like to go bargain hunting or hiking. I enjoy visiting my Grandma and listening to her talk about the latest thing she's discovered in photography. I like Sunday School and Discovery Bound events, which is why I wanted to apply to NLC. I hope to experience many adventures and make many friends through NLC as well. I have gone to Adventure Unlimited for the past five years and I look forward to it all year long. I love to bake cupcakes and cookies, and absolutely love reading books because it's like T.V. in your head.
I have interests in many things and the list is very long. One thing I am very involved in is Horseback riding. I am in a national organization called Pony Club, where it's not just about riding horses, but about Horsemanship and learning what it takes to take care of your pony/horse. A gift from my dear grandmother, I own a grey Connemara pony whose name is Dillon. I deeply love and care for him. He brings light to my day every time I see him and it's such a blessing to own him.
I'm interested in lots of sports, although I am not currently on a competitive team. My two best sports are basketball and soccer. When I have nothing to do, I usually run around the block or dance to the music on the radio in my room to keep me moving. I'm also very interested in singing and playing the piano. I am currently in a select choir group at my school called Nuance. I also love cooking with my mom.
I love to study history and writing. Just like any teenage girl, I also love to learn about fashion and clothes, watch television, especially the show Gilmore Girls, and go on the computer. Whenever I feel the need of some quiet time, I immediately grab my Bible and Science & Health and start reading. I love how I feel when my thought is filled with good, pleasant thoughts that make me feel at peace. I love to hang out with my buddies and I really can't wait to make more friends from NLC.
My name is Paige and I am in the class of 2015W. I am thrilled to be in the NLC program. This is such a fantastic opportunity to help the world. My three favorite sports are soccer, skiing, and volleyball. I love traveling and have gotten the opportunity to travel a lot in my life. Some of my favorite places I have been include Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, France, and Sweden. I also really enjoyed my time in China. I moved to Shanghai, China for a year in sixth grade. My year in Shanghai was life changing. I had one of the best years of my life getting to meet new friends from all over the world. I have a younger sister who was adopted from China 12 years ago, and an older "brother" who is from Nairobi, Kenya. My father is an author who has written over 36 books, some of which have been best sellers. My mom is a stay at home mother who devotes all of her time to volunteering in our community for various organizations. I have two dogs and a cat, all of which I love. I have an amazing life and I know there are others who are not in the same situation. I am blessed to have the opportunity to help others wherever I go.
Crazy, funny, helpful, serious, lighthearted. These are words that people have used to describe me, and I can’t blame them, it’s true! I love to have a good time, but I can be serious and on task at the same time. I love going to school, and some of my favorite subjects are science and English. I love to play all kinds of sports, including basketball, football, cross country and lacrosse. I enjoy getting outside on a sunny day and skateboarding with my good friends. Being with my friends has really made me who I am, and what I will be in the future.
Being trustworthy and positive are some of the values I always look for in people, and no matter who they are, I can always get to know them. A good laugh can always lighten the mood, and that’s what I love to do! You can’t laugh too much!
Who am I? I am Sophia. I enjoy the rain, the sun, and the complexity of the world. I sing, travel, and play volleyball, soccer, and basketball. I am in the eighth grade and am taking Algebra AB Honors, English Honors, History, Science, Physical Education and I am also a teacher's aide. I maintain a 4.0 grade point average and I am planning to try out for the school play in the spring. I am in club volleyball and have participated in my school's travel teams. I attend Sunday school every Sunday and have been a life-long Christian Scientist. I can speak German as well as English. My mother is German and we travel to Germany regularly. I enjoy being part of two cultures and being bilingual. I feel that it makes me different. I also love food. I enjoy tasting different foods from all over the world. As a family we explore different restaurants in the area and if we go to a restaurant a second or third time, we have to order a new dish every time we go.
Hello! My name is Tabitha. My favorite thing to do is smile and laugh at almost anything humorous. I love blue and there is almost never a moment when I'm not wearing at least one blue item. Art has always been a passion of mine (painting mostly). In school, my favorite subject is math because I've always found it exhilarating when I get a wonderful score on math assignments. I like to think that I am a sweet person who really loves to know that everyone is cared for. I greatly enjoy adventure books such as the Harry Potter series. I like to take part in being a leader and expressing my ideas as well as just listening and seeing how I can help.
I have been a Christian Scientist since before kindergarten and I love God. To know that God has dominion over all and controls all is so comforting and that's what I like to think of when distressed. I want to express as much love to everyone as God does; I even find myself unable to hate others! I am truly letting God decide where to lead me whether I make it to Principia, (I applied for High School).
My name is Taylor and one of my big accomplishments in my life so far is surviving my two brothers. I have a little brother named Charlie and a big brother named Jack. We are a close family and love doing things together but I consider it an accomplishment to survive them because they like to tease me all the time. It's okay, because I know they love me and it will only make me stronger. I also have a mom, dad, two cats and a chocolate lab named"Green." I love to read and have read more books than I can count - hundreds of them. When I was in elementary school, a teacher said that I would have challenges reading but I'm proving her wrong because I don't believe in being limited in any way. I have been participating in sports since I was five years old. My involvement in sports has given me some pretty cool memories such as winning the city tournament with my local soccer team. My team played over 20 teams to win the tournament and we had a blast doing it. I also like to snowboard, and play volleyball and basketball. I have been going to the same overnight camp for Christian Scientists for 4 years and it's located in British Columbia, Canada. I love Christian Science and I love God. One of my favorite things to do when I have free time is to babysit because I really love kids. I have been babysitting since I was eleven years old and I have my own business cards! I hope that when I grow up that my career will involve working with kids.
