I am so grateful to be an NLC Class Leader and to be a part of such an inspiring and top notch management team and organization. I attended my first National event 5 years ago as a Chapter Worker and have been a big fan and supporter of DiscoveryBound ever since - serving in whatever way I can, both in our local Atlanta Chapter and as a Chaperone at National Events. I love working with teens and bring the experience of raising three of my own as well as working with children of all ages in various capacities over the years to this leadership position.
Here’s my life in a nutshell until now…
I was born and raised in the Boston area until 7th grade and in Woodstock, Vermont until College. My siblings and I spent many summers in Maine at Camps Newfound and Owatonna, so I love camp!!! During college, my family moved to Orange County, CA, so I transferred from Middlebury College and finished my education at the University of California, Irvine. I’ve had many international adventures, travelling to Norway and England, and later to Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand with my Dad on a business trip after graduating from High School. In college, I spent a year in Zurich, Switzerland as an Au Pair, then later lived and studied for a year at the University of Padua, Italy as part of the University of California abroad program. Other countries visited include Tunisia (in North Africa), France, Germany and Austria. In addition to studying History and Languages, I studied voice and performed in musicals and as soloist in recitals, choral performances, and church.
After college, I worked in sales and management in Newport Beach, CA, until getting married and eventually left work to be a full time Mom – the best job EVER!!! Seven years ago we moved from California to Duluth, Georgia, just north of Atlanta, and are loving living in the South. We have three children, Chandler (20), Nick (19) and Christina (17). I’ve been active in our local DiscoveryBound chapter since Chandler’s first year of high school and have chaperoned and/or attended several National Events. I’m also an active member of the Christian Science church in Roswell, sing in a community chorale and am an avid tennis player. I love working with the kids in our local chapter and look forward to embarking with my co-leader Alex and our wonderful class on our “unlimited adventure” together!
Although I live in Denver, CO, now, I only moved to the Mile High City recently and love it! I grew up on the East Coast outside of Boston, MA, worked in the city for several years and know it well. My extended family lives in Phoenix, AZ, Seattle, WA, Portland, ME, and England, so I have some fun places to travel for vacation.
In high school my favorite classes were English, science, ceramics and photography, and I played football, baseball, wrestled, and worked tech crew for a few plays. I went to Principia College where I majored in Business, and after graduation studied Graphic Design at Massachusetts College of Art, which is what I do now for Adventure Unlimited.
Outside of work I like to go hiking and enjoy the great scenery Colorado is known for. I also enjoy reading, mountain biking, running, playing Bananagrams, and photography. I've also been known to watch a football game on a Sunday afternoon.

My name is Cecily and I was born and grew up in Minnesota, and now live in the Midwest. I have had the same best friend who’s known me since I was born. We grew up together in Minnesota and then moved to the same place after. I live with my parents and big brother, and we spend lots of our time doing sports. I also live with a ferret, two gerbils, and a cat.
I spend my time my time in many different ways. I swim on a team competitively year-round, and I also play competitive basketball year-round. I like hanging out with friends from school and sports, and I keep in close touch with friends I’ve met from camp who live all over the world. Another thing I like to do is read, especially historical fiction books. One of my favorite places to be is up north in Michigan.
Hi, my name is Claire. I love the beautiful things in life and I always strive to make others happy. I enjoy almost any kind of sport and I’m always willing to try something new, whether it’s the exciting high ropes course at camp or a challenging new dance step. Dance is a very big part of my life and I love dancing for so many reasons. I reflect grace and poise whenever I’m on stage, and I feel like I really belong at my studio, while I’m auditioning, or as I’m performing. Dance adds balance and structure to my life, while also adding lots of fun social events and opportunities for me. Student Council, reading, hanging out with my friends, playing the clarinet, and choir are also things I love to do in my spare time. I always reflect joy when I sing, and choir has been such a blessing in my life. I also attend Cedars Camps every summer and love it there! Camp is great because of the loving atmosphere and the caring people you meet.
I am so grateful to have such an amazing family: my creative twin sister Stephanie, my athletic and fun little brother Carter, my caring mom Cymbre, my hard-working dad Todd, and my crazy and sociable cat Sugar. My mom has always been such a role model for me and has taught me so much about Christian Science. It has been so helpful to me in my life to know how God is my Father-Mother and that He is always caring for me.
Hi, my name is Drew, and I’m in eighth grade. I live with my sister and parents. I play bass clarinet, guitar, and the piano. My favorite sports are lacrosse, wrestling and cross country. I also really like to ride my bike. I have a dog named Henry and a mouse named Will. I’ve been to AU for 5 summers and love it.
My name is Ellen. My family is involved in foster care. Living with other teens has taught me to adapt and to put myself in someone else’s place to understand them. I’m a straight A student and for the most part I enjoy school. In my spare time I draw, read, or play with my dogs. I have played rec soccer since I was in kindergarten, and I started doing track last year for the school team. I’ve been around horses since I was born and I love to ride. I also love hanging out with my friends at the mall on the weekends. I’m outgoing and happy, and I just enjoy living life.
My name is Katelin. I was born in the Southwest. When I was two years old, we moved to New England; but I still have roots in the West. Every year until recently we visited my grandparents in Arizona and then Texas. My family loves skiing in Utah, visiting family friends with two boys who are like our brothers. I have to push myself to keep up with them, but that makes it more fun. Being around boys makes me tougher and helps me learn to get back up when I fall - on the ski slope, or just in general. This proves to me that I can demonstrate spiritual qualities such as courage and strength, which are typically expressed by males. I love Southwestern art, especially Native American art and Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings. I love the area surrounding my New England home, and some of my favorite places in the world are Nantucket and the White Mountains. Every summer since I was a baby at family camp, I have gone to Camp Newfound in Maine. The Christian Science community and beautiful setting feel like home. I’ve made great friends, and progressed a lot in all the activities.
Ever since first grade I have loved soccer and have been on about five travel teams, sometimes three during the same season. I have also played basketball for four years. Team sports give me a lot of opportunities to use Christian Science, from helping me have better sportsmanship to playing my best and praying if I get hurt. Other hobbies I love that give me opportunities to grow spiritually are: hiking in Maine and New Hampshire, rock climbing, horseback riding, swimming, running, and skiing (down-hill, cross country, and waterskiing). I love to play the piano and draw; I also enjoy reading and cooking. While I was in France and Italy last summer, I enjoyed eating excellent food with fresh ingredients. I love to travel, and some of the places I’d especially like to visit are Brazil, Kenya, Germany, and Mexico. I love languages. I have fun learning them, and I hope to live in a foreign country some day.
My name is Kyra and I am in 8th grade. I enjoy playing field hockey. I played on the local team this year and we made it all the way to the tournament! At school I enjoy student coaching the younger cheer squads. I cheered for 4 years and my team won the national cheer competition 3 year in a row. I enjoy reading during my free time. I have also had fun being in the school play for the last two years.
I started Sunday school when I was eight months old and have enjoyed being a part of it ever since. Another favorite activity that has been in my life for many years is the Christian Science camps. Every summer for the past seven years I have gone to Camp Newfound. I went for seven weeks for the first time this past summer. I enjoy the Christian Science aspect as well as the teamwork. I have also gone to the A/U Christmas Program twice. I enjoy brining Christian Science into my everyday life.
My name is Lauren. I have one sister who is six years older than me. I have a cat and a bird. My family and I have gone to a Christian Science church my whole life. My family supports me in Christian Science and we share healings together.
My interests include singing, swimming, dancing, and acting. I have participated in drama club, community theatre, and Theater camps. I swim on the swim team every summer and try out for plays as much as I can. I take two types of dance: Jazz and Ballet. I am currently participating in my school chorus.
My name is Merran and I was born in Houston, Texas. I lived in Houston for 10 years, and while I lived there I went to as many outdoor classes as I could. I was always especially interested in learning about reptiles, and my interest for animals has never lessened. That interest has lead to my love of volunteering. I’ve started two conservation groups: one in Houston, called The Migration Group (TMG), and the other is called the Forever Forest Group, which I helped co-found. I’ve also been involved in many other various service projects. I have also taken some photography classes and I usually have my camera with me whenever I’m outside. My camera has also been able to capture lots of memories from traveling and doing fun activities with my family and friends. I have traveled to quite a few places: Hawaii, Maine, Washington, Louisiana, The Smokies/ North Carolina, North Captiva/ Florida, Alaska, Canada, The Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, and more. I think traveling is very exciting. I enjoy going to new places and trying new food and new activities. I have always wanted to visit Australia.
My daily life consists of practicing Christian Science, attending school, volunteering, completing homework, taking care of my pets, playing sports, hanging out with family and friends, and playing the piano - all of which I enjoy. My family is very important to me. I have one sister named Josie who is a freshman in college. She is someone that I know I’ll I always be able to look up to. My mom’s name is Laurie. She’s a great mom and works very hard. We have a lot of similar interests. My dad passed on last year, but he will always be my dad. He was always someone that I could talk to. He also always knew how to make me laugh. Also, I love spending time with friends and making new friends. Recently, I have made quite a few new friends on the club soccer team that I joined. My favorite sport is soccer and my second favorite is basketball. Overall I have a wonderful life and I’m so grateful for everything I have.
I am a young and active Christian Scientist, currently in middle school. I recently moved to America this past September. I have a HUGE love of music and drama and play both the piano and violin constantly. In 2010 I was accepted in the National Children’s String Symphonic for violin, and I have won piano and violin competitions & awards for achievements in contribution to music. I was part of a large choir and have sung in a massive international music hall. My mother is an opera singer and so my family has always known music and helped me by supporting me in this adventure. In 2008, I was awarded the music scholarship award at my school, and I regularly attend music camps and now Discovery Bound activities.
At a young age I fell in love with Shakespearean plays, and I even got to work with members of the Royal Shakespearean Society, such as King Lear & Toby Belch (a very fun part indeed) and since then I have been very involved with school drama plays & musicals, with key roles in each of them (I haven't acted as a tree yet!) I am very enthusiastic in everything I do and can call myself a confident and secure person. I always enjoy humor (and making it) and meeting people. I love to share all my music with everyone, and I will not miss an opportunity to express music.
Hi, my name is Sidney and I live in North Carolina. I have been a Christian Scientist all my life and I am grateful for the healings and growth it has brought me! I have a brother Jeremy who is 10, a loving mother, Patti and a caring father, Larry. I also have a dog named Ace who I absolutely love playing with in my free time. Other things I like to do in my free time are dance, field hockey, softball, swimming, singing and hanging out with my friends. For the past eight years I have been on a swim team, and for the past five years I have been playing softball on three different teams. I have also been playing field hockey and singing for the past two years. Although I love all of these activities my main passion is dance. I have been dancing since I was three and right now I am in a performance group where we preform throughout the whole year.
Some other things I like to do are to go to camp, and be in different Glee clubs. I have been going to sleep away camp since I was seven years old but for the past three years I have attended Cedars. My favorite program to do there is the Musical Theatre program which I have done for the past two years. Last summer I was in a short Glee club that was super fun! Then in my first semester of eighth grade I was in yet another Glee club that I loved. And finally this summer I was accepted into a Glee program affiliated with the University of North Carolina and with my local preforming arts center, which I am very excited about. If I only had a few words to describe myself I would use, passionate, loving, willing to try new things, creative and organized. Finally I am very excited to be a part of NLC.
Hi! My name is Sierra. I have one dog, two cats, and two brothers. I live with my mother in Massachusetts and my father lives in California. I am involved in an acting organization called “The Drama Studio” and I run on a track team. I also love riding horses and I played piano for five years, but now I am more involved in singing. I am in an advanced chorus group at my school called “Ensemble 7:45”. We meet at 7:45 in the morning 1-2 times a week before school. We have already sung at a Falcons hockey game and plan to sing at a Red Sox baseball game. In high school, I want to be involved in various groups and volunteer for multiple charities. I'm excited to have the opportunity to be more involved in Christian Science through the NLC. I can already tell the experience will last a lifetime.
Hi, my name is Isaiah but most people call me Zaiah. I live with my mom, dad, and two brothers. With three boys in our family it is always busy and we can always find something fun to do. I also have a dog named Willow. We got her as a puppy from the rescue adoption.
I enjoy hanging out with my friends, participating in family activities, and school. I love sports. I play on the basketball, football, and baseball teams. I also enjoy snow skiing and waterskiing. I have fun camping and go several times a year with my school and with my family.
