My name is Gina, and I am co-leader for the 2010 NLC Class. Originally from Rapid City, South Dakota, I now have called Colorado home for the past thirteen years. For the past eleven years I have worked full-time for Adventure Unlimited as their National Field Director overseeing DiscoveryBound and the A/U Expeditions program.
Working for A/U and DB combines everything I love – youth, Christian Science, and the outdoors. My free time is spent doing anything I can outside including: downhill and telemark skiing, rock-climbing, hiking, horseback riding and biking. When home in Denver I am also active in my local branch church. I love traveling internationally and some of my favorite travel spots include Patagonia, Peru, Turkey, and Tasmania. I have loved over the past three years watching these teens develop into the people they want to be, individuals who care about the world and each other. It has been a pure privilege to be a part of their lives.
Hi, my name is Susan and I have the privilege to co-lead the 2010 NLC class. I’m originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida but now live in Denver, Colorado with my wonderful family (husband and two children). I love spending time with my family whether it is snow skiing, camping, hiking or cooking up something new in the kitchen. Most of what I did while living in Florida was water related, so now I enjoy exploring Colorado and its’ beautiful mountains. I have worked for Adventure Unlimited / DiscoveryBound for over ten years and currently focus on special programs for our field department. My work is very rewarding, inspiring and pushes me to grow in many ways – how could I ask for more! I enjoy being involved with the local activities DiscoveryBound has to offer and within my branch church. Being part of the 2010 NLC class is a wonderful experience and I feel like my family has grown!

Hello, I’m Cameron and I’m from Northern California. For fun I write, play the trumpet in the top jazz band at my high school, read, and spend time outdoors whenever I can. I like to work hard and like to see a job well done. In the past I’ve trained in freestyle martial arts, played water polo, and wrestled and swam at the varsity level. When I get to college I hope to study art, music, Spanish, and biology, which are my favorite subjects. Someday I hope to live and work in another country, learn how to play the cello, and have a job I love doing. And above all to continue to learn more about God and see his expression wherever I am in whatever I’m doing.
My name is Ellen and I live in
California. I moved to California 7 years ago after my third grade
year. I really love artistic things and enjoy watching the world go by,
especially the way people interact with each other. This is why when I
am older I want to be an interior designer or work with children,
possibly as a tutor for younger children. I am also very passionate
about animals and the environment and love to help either of the two in
any way I can (except through the SPCA because I get attached to the
animals and want to take them all home). For the past three years I
have been taking German at my school and plan to visit Germany soon
since I am becoming more and more fluent. As far as sports go, I have
been a swimmer for a few years but have now picked up Volleyball. But
most importantly, I am in the National Leadership Council and have been
now since my freshman year. It has been a very progressive and fun time
spent in the NLC with my second family and I am excited for whatever
waits for us in the next year.
My name is Emily; I live in Minnesota. I am a junior in high school, and I enjoy school most of the time. NLC has been a huge aspect of my life for years now. I love it! I would be a completely different person without it. I also enjoy reading, listening to music and being with people; preferably my friends. I don’t play any sports but I like to be active so I run or bike whenever possible. I am the second oldest of five kids; my family is also a huge aspect of my life. CS is part of my daily life; I go to it and other CSers whenever I need help.
Hi! My name is Emily, and I have been a member of NLC since our first year. At home, I love to sing, play soccer, and participate in community service with my Girl Scout troop. I love to sing in my school choir, and pretty much everywhere else, especially at home. I love playing defense on my club soccer team, even though we are not very good. We were thrilled when we tied 2-2 (we were also down two players.) I love hanging out with the other girls in my troop. Right now we are working on achieving a Gold Award, the highest and most difficult award to achieve in Girl Scouts. I have two older sisters who I miss a lot because they are away in Boston and Dusseldorf, Germany studying music. I enjoy playing cards with my family (when they are home), especially the best card game ever- G’luck!
Hey! My name is Emily and I have lived in a tiny town in California my whole life. I consider myself very active whether I am doing golf or track for my school, kayaking, bike riding, and tennis with my family, or doing my favorite, horseback riding. I am a junior in high school and enjoying it, my favorite class being one called academic decathlon. I LOVE to travel, my favorite place being Thailand. Hopefully my career enables me to travel a lot. I have two older sisters, three cats, a dog, and a horse (hopefully more pets will come soon ☺). But I have saved the best for last. The NLC is my favorite thing in life. The friends I have made, the trips I have taken, the leadership skills I have learned, this has all played a major role in who I am today. All of it has been influential to my daily life, but mostly my love for community service has grown. I went from doing maybe an hour a year, to having consistent hours that are what I live for. I wake up on some days smiling because I know I get to do community service that day. I am so grateful that the NLC became a part of my life, and I can not wait for the opportunities I still have to come from it.
Hi! My name is Emily and I am junior in the 2010 NLC class. Having lived in England, Canada, New Zealand and the United States throughout my childhood, I have developed a passion for traveling and experiencing new places and things. However, one of my favorite places on earth is at Camp Bow-Isle where I have spent the last 8 summers. I am a very family oriented person and my older siblings are both important figures in my life who I admire very much. I am involved in many school activities such as running for the cross-country and track teams, cheerleading, and participating in the community service club. In general, the remainder of my time is spent enjoying the outdoors and being active, whether it’s skiing, scuba diving, hiking, biking, playing ultimate Frisbee, or whatever else strikes my fancy. I also have a great appreciation for art in its many forms, including dance, music, and painting, although my most regular opportunity to create art comes in the form of doodling. I love to make smoothies and baked goods, especially when it involves trying new recipes. In a word or
two, I like to be spontaneous, goofy, and enthusiastic, all the time!
My name is Jessie. I live in small town Colorado, and I attend a Christian Science experiential education high school. I am a junior at the school. I was raised in Christian Science and over the years I have made the religion my own and I love it. I have a zillion different interests. If it is a sport you can do in the mountains count me in. My main interests are soccer, horses and rock climbing.
I play soccer for both my club and school; I ride horses as often as possible, competing in a number of different sports within the horse world. Polocrosse is my favorite; it is like playing lacrosse on horseback. My dad got me into climbing when I was little, but in the last year or so it has become a passion of mine. I also love to travel. I have been to sixteen
foreign countries. And a significant number of them have been developing, third world countries. Two years ago my family and I compete a 3000-mile backpack trip. We hiked from Canada to Mexico. It took us six months, and I believe that that trip was a major tool in my life shaping me into who I am today.
Hi. My name is Jonathon. I'm a junior in high school in Northern California. When I'm not in school, I work as a busser at a Golf Club Restaurant. Two of my favorite things to do are being with friends, and playing lacrosse. This winter, I will begin my second year of playing lacrosse. I also love to snowboard and wakeboard. I live on a lake, and about one hour from ski resorts, so both sports are very convenient. I have one sibling, who's nineteen and recently moved away to go to college and I live with my parents. I have been in the National Leadership Council for almost four years. Every aspect of the NLC has helped me learn more about Christian Science and leadership.
Hey! My name is Kendra and I live in Florida. I’m a junior and this is my 3rd year being in the NLC. My life is still devoted around school, my horses, Christian Science and the NLC. Being a part of the National Leadership Council has opened my eyes up to so many new opportunities and learning experiences. I have grown as an individual in my leadership skills, as well as Christian Science. I’m so grateful to have such great leaders and friends.
We have been on adventure trips, service trips, and much more. This program has given me a broad view of how to take on challenges with a positive attitude and determination. It has also inspired me to get more involved in my community’s church and DiscoveryBound events. I love being able to help lead the various events. I am also consistently involved in community service. I help with something called Hope Therapy which works with disabled children and adults and helps improve their skills while riding horses. I have built up love and compassion for this program and my barn has even signed a contract with them so they can use our indoor riding arena and one of my horses in their program. I am so grateful to have found such a great program as the National Leadership Program to help develop my skills to help me become a great leader.
My name is Kevin, and I have been in the National Leadership Council (class of 2010) since it first met in 2006. I am a passionate, hardworking photographer and biker, both on trails and roads. I always attempt to give my best effort in all my endeavors, for it is my belief that hard work brings its own rewards. This program has been a great experience for me. I’ve been able to grow spiritually, enhance my abilities as a leader, and meet quite a few particularly amazing individuals. The other members of this group have become some of the best friends I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. With this amazing group, I have hiked, biked, kayaked, climbed mountains in South Dakota, planted trees in Costa Rica, and sailed in Canada. I have become a much more effective leader as a result of my time with the National Leadership Council. This program has helped me substantially improve myself and grow spiritually, and I feel honored to be a member of the National Leadership Council.
Hey everybody!!!! My name is Kynan and I live in central Colorado. A junior in high school, I enjoy playing sports such as soccer, hockey, and running cross country and track. I also like to play the drums and piano. In school, I excel in science, Spanish, and English. Some of my favorite activities are to just hang out with my friends and long board around town. I am interested in studying biology in college and really like to travel to different places in the world. Some of the NLC experiences that I have really enjoyed were sailing in British Columbia, rock climbing in South Dakota, and volunteering in the vast jungle of Costa Rica.
Hello! My name is Melody, I’m a junior and am currently a boarding school in the Midwest. I live in California and like to participate in sports, community service, and hanging out with friends. I absolutely LOVE NLC, the friends I have inquired are incredible, and I've learned and accomplished so much through this program. I love to travel and learn about cultures, I have gotten many of these opportunities and am so grateful to be learning how to lead and just making the life’s of others easier. I want to continue making a difference.
The name Scott who lives in sunny Southern California. I am 15 years old, have a younger sister, parents, two dogs, and a cat. I am also a junior in high school. There are many things I love to do in life. I love to play soccer, not only competitive but also for fun. I also like to play guitar. I have been playing guitar for about seven months now and I love to play songs from my favorite bands. Another passion of mine is Boy Scouts. I have always been a boy scout since I was seven and started as a tiger scout. I made the rank of Eagle Scout at age thirteen, the highest rank in scouts. Currently I am part at a Venture Crew, a high adventure arm of boy scouts. It involves leadership to younger scouts and planning high adventure activities such as hiking, backpacking, bicycling, and camping trips. I have also been a Christian Scientist my whole life. I love to go to nearby DiscoveryBound events and make new friends. I am also currently in the NLC program working on my leadership skills and becoming a better Christian Scientist.
Through NLC I have received the Bronze Medal of the Congressional Award. I reached this level having completed 100 hours of service work, 50 hours of physical development through soccer, 50 hours of personal development through learning more about photography, and at least one overnight expedition. I am working on my Silver Medal, which is almost completed. Doing NLC and the Congressional Award pushes me to strive to be the best I can be. I am very glad and grateful for the many wonderful opportunities God has given me.
Hey guys! My name is Zane and I’m from Texas! When I’m not participating in NLC events or other DiscoveryBound events, I like to see movies, hang out with friends, and nap a lot (just your average teenager). I am currently raising two show goats named Tico and Theo through my high school’s FFA chapter. I also Irish Dance, which I have been doing for twelve years now and has played a big role in my life, and has made me a world traveler too! The NLC is a great way to meet new awesome people, travel to new places, and to learn how to become a better individual in your community. So, if
you can, I encourage all to join this great program!
